Obuasi (Ash), July 26, GNA - District Directors of Education and their human resource and development officers have been urged not to post lazy and non-performing teachers to kindergarten schools.
Ms Ellen Takyi-Mensah, Ashanti Regional Co-ordinator of Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centres, said although solid foundation of the child's education should begin at the kindergarten level, it was regrettable those in charge of postings appear to have an entirely different perception.
That is why they often send teachers who regularly fall sick, non-performers and lazy, to teach at the kindergarten, and remove hardworking ones to the upper classes.
Delivering the Keynote address at a durbar to climax a week-long celebration of the ECD centres in Obuasi, Ms Takyi-Mensah said "Kindergarten is not a resting place for teachers; neither is it a playing field for teachers. It is not a place for lazy and non-performing teachers".
Touching on the theme for the celebration, "Early childhood development, The Genesis of Literacy" and said a workshop would soon be held for Kindergarten teachers to make them more resourceful and creative, to assist the children to effectively master literacy, numeracy and problem-solving.
Mr Johnny Owusu-Boadi, Obuasi Municipal Director of Education, asked teachers to treat the kindergarten children with empathy, love, kindness and affection, and also approach their work with the seriously it deserved.
They should create the right environment for the children to explore their learning potentials, and apply a lot of teaching materials to concretize whatever they teach them.
On the National Literacy Acceleration Programme (NALAP), he said it was imperative for the teachers to use the knowledge gained at the various workshops as well as the materials supplied, to make its implementation successful in the schools.
"Parents are also entreated to support the NALAP and take proper care of the materials should their wards bring them home," Mr Owusu-Boadi said.
Madam Comfort Arthur, the Municipal ECD Co-ordinator, deplored the situation where some parents fail to give their little children food before sending them off to school.
She said since the parents were not paying fees because of the capitation grant, they should feed and clothe the children.
