Cape Coast, July 29, GNA - The Central Region branch of the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU), on Thursday embarked on a peaceful demonstration in the Cape Coast Metropolis against increase in utility tariffs by the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC).

They were clad in red bands and wielded placards some of which read "our industries are collapsing', 'Water is life, utility tariffs are too high', 'killer bills are no good', "electricity and water consumers are crying" and "we shall loose our jobs".

Mr Kwame Oppong, the Regional Coordinating Director, received a resolution adopted by the Union and signed by the Regional Chairman Mr Ransford Opoku Ware, for onward submission to President John Evans Atta Mills.

It said that the increase would affect domestic consumers and result in stagnation in economic activities, which would compel owners of industries in the Region to lay off workers.

The Senior Industrial Relations Officer of the Union, Mr Ahmed Ali told industry from collapse.
