Gov't Crash infrastructure Programme for SHSs in UE near completion

Bolgatanga, July 30(Akapule) GNA 96Contractors in the Upper East Region who have been awarded contracts under the government's crash infrastructure programme for Senior High Schools (SHSs) are working vigorously to complete them before September, as scheduled.

This came to light when the Regional Minister, Mr. Mark Woyongo paid a five day working visit to inspect the SHSs projects in the Region where most of them were near completion.

Some of the schools the Minister visited included the Bolgatanga Girls SHS, Zuarungu SHS, Bolgatanga SHS, Gowrie SHS, Bawku SHS, Zebilla SHS, Navrongo SHS and Sandema Sec-Technical among others.

The Regional Minister commended the contractors for their hard work and entreated them to speed up their work to beat the deadline to enable the schools admit more students.

The infrastructural package include 12 Unit class room block, Administration block, Library Complex, Dormitory and Masters' Bungalows in each of the beneficiary schools.

Mr. Woyongo told the Contractors that the Regional Coordinating Council had taken notice of them and the future award of contracts would depend on their performance in executing the projects and warned that anyone who does shoddy work or fail to complete the project in time would be blacklisted.

The Regional Minister also inspected the ongoing road projects which included the tarring and reshaping of the principal, Commercial and Ministry area roads which are also to be completed before the celebration of the Region's 50th anniversary scheduled to take off between September and November.

The Minister said Government was tarring and resurfacing the Principal and commercial streets fitted with streetlights to give the Region a facelift to celebrate a befitting event.

The Minister also inspected the Bolgatanga-Soe Residential road which had been re-awarded for work to begin this year.

The Regional Minister observed that a major problem confronting contractors in the Region was lack of equipment and said soon Plan Pool Company would open a branch in the Region to enable contractors equipment to either purchase or rent to execute jobs.

The Contractors, who were at the sites visited, working feverishly with their workers assured the Regional Minister that the work would be completed on schedule.
