Opoku‑Agyemang urged the graduating class to uphold integrity and remain committed to excellence
Ghana’s Vice President, Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has called on graduates of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) to combine technical expertise with purpose-driven innovation as they enter the world of work.
She made this call during the university’s 10th Congregation Ceremony held in Sunyani, which was attended by the Paramount Chief of the Dormaa Traditional Area and Chairman of the University Council, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II, members of the Governing Council, faculty, parents, and graduates of the university.
In her address, the Vice President stated that while technical skill is essential, it must be backed by intention and responsibility.
“Technical skill is important but not sufficient; innovation must be guided by purpose,” she said. “When experiments fail, discipline and perseverance must prevail.”

Prof Opoku-Agyemang urged graduates to design technology that responds to Ghana’s realities — solutions that are affordable, accessible and sustainable, and that improve everyday life.
She added that meaningful innovation thrives on collaboration across disciplines, institutions, and communities.
She also acknowledged the individuals and institutions that laid the foundation for UENR’s growth, praising the combined efforts of academic, administrative, and traditional leaders.
She commended faculty and researchers for their dedication and expressed gratitude to parents and guardians for their sacrifices. She further encouraged leaders, private investors, and industry partners to deepen their engagement with the University.
What Professor Opoku-Agyemang told new doctors
“Government will continue to create enabling policies, but policy alone cannot deliver results. Strong systems, partnerships, and investment are essential,” she noted.
Prof Opoku-Agyemang concluded by urging the graduating class to uphold integrity and remain committed to excellence.
“Ghana needs your ideas, your energy, and your willingness to work together,” she told the graduates.
