The accident happened following a head-on collision between two cars
A tragic accident at Mankrong on the Accra-Kumasi Highway claimed one life and left 37 others injured.
The collision occurred on Sunday, January 11, 2026, following a head-on crash between a 40-seater Zhong Tong bus (Registration Number AS 7022-21) and a Man Diesel truck (Registration Number GW 3969-U), both in motion at the time of impact.
The Eastern Regional Public Relations Officer for the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), DOII Ignatius Kwamena Biadoo, told OTEC News Reporter Kwame Agyenim Boateng that a rescue team responded promptly after receiving a distress call.
"The team arrived at the scene at 7:07 AM after being dispatched at 6:59 AM," he said.
"They extricated the deceased, assisted the injured, and restored traffic flow."
The injured, including 21 males and 17 females, were transported to Suhum Government Hospital for treatment, while the truck occupants escaped unharmed.
Eyewitnesses reported that the bus was allegedly speeding when it crashed into the truck, causing extensive damage to the bus’s front section and minor damage to the truck’s rear.
The GNFS team concluded their operation at 8:57 AM and returned to base at 9:52 AM, highlighting their commitment to rapid emergency response.
