The government will continue to work and collaborate with traditional leaders to strengthen cultural and traditional practices that promote socio-economic development.
Wisdom Osei Boamah, Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), who stated this, said positive traditional and cultural practices such as puberty rites that promoted the dignity of the girl-child and protected marriage, played key roles in the socio-economic development of the people.
Osei Boamah, stated this at a puberty rite ceremony organised by Oheneyere Adoma Akosua, Queen mother of Nkawie-Kumaa in the Municipality for eight girls in the town.
The MCE pledged to support such programmes and other positive traditional activities to shape the social and moral development of the youth in the area.
Oheneyere Adoma pointed out that the programme was aimed at promoting, producing, and maintaining chastity to shape the moral behaviours of Nkawie girls and beyond.
She appealed to the people, especially the men, to support the proper upbringing and maturity of girls to make them high achievers.
This she said could help produce female graduates with higher laurels to make them useful and helpful to their families and communities.
Oheneyere Adoma, emphasised that, men at times became obstacles to the successful development of innocent girls, when they cajoled and lured young girls into fornication, leading to teenage pregnancy, unwanted pregnancy, untimely childbirth and its subsequent single motherhood or unprepared marriages.
“This situation ruins the fortunes, opportunities and entire lives of girls,” she added.
She commended the girls, who participated in the event for their discipline and obedience to parents and other leaders, which sailed them through traditional and medical examinations of the programme.
She donated 15 pieces of wax prints, sanitary pads, perfumes, other assorted items, and undisclosed amounts of money to each of them.
The participating girls thanked the Queen mother and the organizers for honouring them, and pledged their continuous obedience, respect, and discipline towards leadership.
