The Ajumako Enyan Essiam District Police Command has called for additional personnel
The Ajumako Enyan Essiam District Police Command has called on the government and the Minister of Interior to deploy additional personnel, warning that security across the district is severely compromised.
District Police Commander ASP William Abbey revealed that just nine officers are currently tasked with policing the entire district, a situation he described as “untenable” for effective law enforcement.
Speaking during a meeting with the District Chief Executive (DCE), ASP Abbey outlined the command’s urgent challenges, including dilapidated buildings with ceilings on the verge of collapse, worn-out office furniture, and a sole police vehicle in poor condition. Some stations are now operating with only one officer, leaving entire communities vulnerable to crime.
The commander appealed for major renovations of the police facilities and for improved staff accommodation to reduce the high rate of personnel transfers out of the district.
Responding to the appeal, DCE Andrews Kojo Duodu pledged to prioritize security improvements during his tenure. He inspected the police facilities and promised to escalate the issues to the Member of Parliament for the area, Hon. Cassiel Ato Forson, for further action.
“I’ve been in office for less than a year, but I’ve already identified numerous challenges facing institutions in the Ajumako Enyan Essiam District. I will do my best as DCE to address what I can,” he said, commending the police for their dedication under difficult conditions.
