The newly installed paramount chief of Asante Mampong (Mamponghene), Daasebre Osei Bonsu III, pledged his allegiance to the king of Asanteman, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on Monday, January 20, 2026.

Before Daasebre Osei Bonsu III pledged his allegiance, the Asantehene urged him to emulate his predecessor, the late Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, who passed away in April 2025, particularly the late paramount chief’s good conduct, humility, selflessness, and service.

“Many times, issues came up that needed redress. I called him indoors to resolve them. Outdooring the issue would tarnish and disgrace me. Whenever he was at fault, I invited him, and he honoured promptly. Daasebre was respectful and obedient.

“You are my grandson, and so you are my own, and so I rest my case. I know you were the confidant of Daasebre while he lived. I am aware,” the Asantehene said to the new paramount chief of Asante Mampong.

After the Asantehene’s admonition, Daasebre proceeded to pledge his allegiance to the Asantehene, Asanteman, and the Golden Stool (Sikadwa Kofi).

With the Mponponsuo (responsibility sword) in his hand, the paramount chief of Asante Mampong, who is the occupant of the Silver Stool of Asanteman, swore the oath of allegiance as follows:

“Otumfuo, I swear our oath to the effect that my grandfather is Asiamah Keishia, my grandfather is Ameniampong, my grandfather is Boahenanatio, my grandfather is Osei Bonsu I, my uncle is Osei Bonsu II.

“The good service of my forefathers rendered to Sikadwa and the people of Asanteman is what I, Osei Bonsu III, am here to continue… Otumfuo, Asantehene, I’m your Nwisiahene, Nifahene and Chief Commander. If I’m not able to complete any task you give me, I have disgraced myself and broken your great oath," he said to cheers and roars from the crowd.
