Nana Ago Saa, the Chief of Anhwiaso in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Constituency, has appealed to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, led by President John Dramani Mahama, to urgently revive Ghana’s defunct railway network.

Speaking during Johnson Asiedu Nketiah’s “Thank You Tour” in the Western North Region, the chief emphasised that restoring the railway system would reduce pressure on roads, improve transportation, and boost trade and agriculture in rural communities.

He highlighted the socio-economic benefits of a revitalised rail system, stressing the need to ease road congestion, improve safety, and cut transportation costs.

Nana Ago Saa praised the NDC’s vision for infrastructure development and recalled President Mahama’s previous commitment to rail rehabilitation.

Responding to the appeal, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah reiterated the party’s commitment to national infrastructural transformation, stating that the NDC has always viewed rail transport as a pillar of national development.

He disclosed that the party plans to develop over 1,400 kilometres of railway lines, including the Western, Eastern, and Northern corridors, to support economic growth and job creation.

The appeal reflects growing public expectations for sustainable solutions to Ghana’s infrastructure challenges, with traditional authorities and urban leaders alike echoing calls to “bring back the railway” as a pathway to national progress.
