Deputy transport minister cuts sod for construction of DVLA office in Jomoro

The Deputy Minister for Transport, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, has cut sod for the construction of a state-of-the-art Drivers and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) office at Samenye-barrier in the Jomoro Constituency of the Western region.

The construction work is expected to be completed within one year.

Speaking at the colorful ground-breaking ceremony on Friday, Dorcas Affo-Toffey who is also the MP for Jomoro, commended President John Dramani Mahama for appointing her as the Deputy Transport Minister to assist the sector minister to reset and transform the ministry.

She stated that the establishment of the DVLA branch in the Jomoro Constituency was going to reduce the youth unemployment situation in the area.

She called on the good people of Jomoro to rally behind the contractor to complete the project on time.

Dorcas Affo-Toffey thanked the CEO of DVLA for listening to the cry of Jomoro.

"In fact, I'm very very excited to see this because in 2024 that I was doing my campaign a lot of drivers and motorbike riders appealed to me that if John Dramani Mahama becomes president I should let the government to build a DVLA office in Jomoro and today the DVLA CEO has come here with a contractor to begin the construction of a DVLA office, let us all embrace the project and support the contractor to complete the project on time", she expressed her excitement.

The Deputy Transport Minister stated the establishment of the new DVLA branch in Jomoro when completed would reduce the congestion in the regional DVLA office in Takoradi.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Jomoro, Benedict Boadi, commended Dorcas Affo-Toffey for pushing for the DVLA office to be established in Jomoro.

He said the era of traveling to Takoradi to acquire driving license would be a thing of the past.

The MCE pledged his total commitment to support the contractor to complete the project on schedule.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of (DVLA), Julius Neequaye Kotey disclosed that in February 2026, the Authority would open a temporary office at T1 to begin the registration of vehicles, motorbikes and issuing of licenses while they wait for the completion of the permanent office at Samenye-barrier.

The 37-year-old DVLA CEO commended the chiefs for releasing their land for the construction of the office.

He stated that the establishment of the DVLA branch was going to create employment for the youth in the area.

"When we complete this office we will employ the youth of Jomoro", he stated.

He therefore, took the opportunity to urge the youth of Jomoro to take their academic works seriously.

"Knowledge is not about age and with education you can become like m, I'm here as the DVLA CEO because of education, the youngest DVLA CEO and with knowledge I'm capable of holding this office and I'm going to work and I want to use this opportunity to thank President John Mahama for reposing conference in me", he said.

He disclosed that the Authority would construct water projects as part of the Authority's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

He also disclosed that, "since I became the CEO this is the first area we have cut sod to construct new DVLA office and I'm happy Jomoro people have given us land to build it".

The Chiefs in the Jomoro expressed happiness over the project and appealed to the CEO of DVLA to employ the youth in the area to work in the new office.

They hinted that in February 2026, they would install the DVLA CEO as the Development Chief in Jomoro.

They took the opportunity to appeal to President John Dramani Mahama to reconstruct the Samenye-barrier to Half Assini road network to save lives.

The new DVLA branch when completed will have the following; banking hall, reception, cafeteria, meeting room, offices, storage spaces and washrooms, visitors' car park, staff car park, service yard and security post.
