The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, has appealed to citizens to cooperate with law enforcement officers following a confrontation between suspected illegal miners and police at Jacobu in the Amansie Central District.

The incident, which resulted in one death and several injuries, has sparked public concern.

Dr Amoakohene described the incident as “unfortunate and avoidable” and urged citizens to respect lawful orders.

“Citizens should under no circumstances confront the police or engage in actions that threaten public safety,” he said in a statement.

“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and sympathise with all persons affected by this incident.”

The Minister commended the Ghana Police Service for its efforts in maintaining law and order, stating that government remains committed to supporting security agencies.

“Government remains fully committed to supporting the Police and all security agencies in the execution of their lawful duties to protect lives, property, and public peace,” he added.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing, and authorities have assured that anyone found to have acted unlawfully will face the law.

Community leaders and stakeholders have also been urged to support efforts to restore calm in the area.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured, and I wish them a speedy recovery,” Dr Amoakohene said.
