Keri, a farming community in the Nkwanta South Municipality, has been left largely deserted after a fire reportedly destroyed more than five houses.

According to a report by adomonline.com on March 24, 2026, the cause of the fire, which reportedly started around 1:00 AM, remains unclear.

Security agencies, including the military and a joint police team, were deployed to the area to maintain order, while the Ghana National Fire Service responded to bring the blaze under control, the report indicated.

According to other reports, only a few women remain in Keri, as most residents fled in fear of further attacks amid rising uncertainty in the community.

The incident comes despite previous efforts to restore peace in the municipality.

In 2025, the Adele, Akyode, and Challa groups signed a peace pact facilitated by the National Peace Council, offering assurances of lasting calm in the area.

Concerns have grown following a separate report in which two individuals were allegedly attacked by unknown assailants in their home, intensifying anxiety among residents.

Authorities are investigating the latest incident as they work to prevent further escalation of violence in the municipality, the report added.
