The 2026 edition of the Plau Kane Festival has been successfully celebrated in the Yilo Krobo Traditional Area of the Eastern Region, with a strong emphasis on unity, cultural preservation, and a renewed commitment to supporting education through community-driven initiatives.

The four-day festival, marked by vibrant cultural displays and active community participation, brought together traditional authorities, government officials, and residents, as well as guests from across the country.

Activities commenced with a clean-up and tree-planting exercise, followed by a cultural night, football gala, grand durbar, and a thanksgiving service, culminating in a royal dinner dance.

Beyond the festivities, this year’s celebration was distinguished by a clear focus on development, particularly in the area of education. Central to this vision was the introduction of the Plauma Enterprise Fund (PEF), aimed at supporting youth skills development, entrepreneurship, and providing financial assistance to brilliant but needy students within the Plau Division.

Addressing participants at the grand durbar on Saturday, April 04, 2026, the Divisional Chief of Plau, Nene Djaba Agblezee IV, emphasized the importance of investing in the younger generation, noting that many families continue to seek support for their children’s education. According to him, the establishment of a dedicated fund will help ease this burden and ensure that no child is left behind due to financial constraints.

“Our youth must be brought closer and empowered. If we fail to support them today, we risk losing the future leadership of our communities,” he stated.

The traditional leader placed strong emphasis on education and youth empowerment as central to the development of Yilo Krobo, describing the initiative as a vital intervention to ease the growing financial burden on families.

He warned that without such support, some risk drifting into drug abuse and other social vices.

Nene Djaba Agblezee therefore called on individuals, stakeholders and the wider Krobo community to contribute to sustaining the fund, stressing that investing in the youth will not only secure their future but also produce responsible leaders to drive development in the area.

While reiterating the need to mentor and draw the youth closer to traditional leadership, he also urged unity among residents, cautioning against political divisions, and called for renewed commitment to customs and traditions as well as collective action to address rising concerns such as substance abuse and HIV.

The chief expressed concern over increasing cases of drug abuse and health risks among the youth, and called for urgent interventions through education and mentorship.

Special Guest of Honour, Naana Kwekie Djangmah ll, Queen Mother of New Ningo highlighted the importance of aligning cultural heritage with development goals. Speaking on the theme, “Promoting Development Through Investments and Culture,” she urged stakeholders to see education and youth empowerment as critical investments for the future.

She described the newly introduced fund as a forward-thinking initiative that moves beyond rhetoric to practical solutions for poverty alleviation and human capital development.

Traditional leaders also used the platform to call for unity and collective responsibility in advancing the area’s development agenda.

The Acting President of the Yilo Krobo Traditional Council and Divisional Chief of Nyewer encouraged the various divisions within Yilo Krobo to work together, particularly in promoting education and supporting ongoing initiatives in the Plau Division.

Albert Tetteh Nyakotey, Member of Parliament (MP) for Yilo Krobo, in his remarks, appealed to residents to support both traditional and political leadership to ensure peace and sustained development.

The festival also saw heightened efforts to promote inclusivity and youth participation, with cultural performances, community engagements, and sporting activities drawing significant involvement.

As the curtains close on the 2026 Plau Kane Festival, stakeholders have expressed optimism that the renewed focus on education and development initiatives will yield long-term benefits for the Plau Division and the broader Yilo Krobo area.

The festival once again reaffirmed its role not only as a celebration of culture but also as a platform for driving meaningful change and community advancement.
