The Akyem Abuakwa Standing Committee has stripped the Etweresohene, Daasebre Ofosu Kwabi Ayebiahwe, of his traditional title “Daasebre,” following what it describes as acts of rebellion against Okyeman.

He is henceforth to be known as Ofosu Kwabi Ayebiahwe.

The decision was announced at a meeting of the Standing Committee held at the Ofori Panin Fie in Kyebi in the Eastern Region.

Senior Counsel for Okyeman and a member of the Committee, Lawyer Kwame Boateng, disclosed that all traditional courtesies accorded to the Etweresohene have been withdrawn due to what he termed “rebellious and treasonable conduct.”

“As the chief of Etwereso has himself declared that he will never step foot in Kyebi again, the Council has today granted his wish in full measure.

"He is hereby denied any and all audience in the Ofori Panin Fie save to answer to any statutory body. No gate shall open to him. No stool shall be set for him. He has chosen the path of the exile, and we shall not call him back,” the Standing Committee declared.

According to Lawyer Boateng, the Etweresohene failed on two occasions to honour invitations to appear before the Committee to respond to a viral video and other publications in which he allegedly made statements deemed rebellious against the Okyenhene.

“Whereas the Standing Committee, in accordance with our time-honoured customs, formally extended an invitation to the chief of Etwereso to appear before us today—on a date he himself proposed yet he uncustomarily and disrespectfully sent an excuse duty through the State Secretary, refusing to face the Okyenhene and the elders.

"Having heard the silence where his voice should have been, having weighed his words and his deeds against the oaths he swore upon the Ofori Stool, the Standing Committee of Okyeman hereby strips off his courtesies,” Lawyer Kwame Boateng stated in the Committee’s declaration.

The Committee further announced the withdrawal of his reporting rights, indicating that he can no longer present matters concerning Etwereso to Oman. It added that no communication from him would be received by the Okyenhene, the State Secretary, or any recognised traditional authority within Okyeman.

Additionally, all towns, villages, and settlements previously under the Etwereso division have been directed to cease reporting to him with immediate effect and instead report directly to the Benkum Division at Begoro.

The Etweresohene has also been removed as a member of the Standing Committee. His seat has been declared vacant, and he will no longer participate in the decision-making processes of the Akyem Abuakwa State.

To affirm the decision traditionally, Akyeame and Nananom reportedly poured libation and sacrificed a sheep.

“Let it be known throughout Okyeman, from Kyebi to the furthest farmstead, that rebellion shall find no shelter under our sacred umbrella. Okyenhene does not break his own house; but when a man raises his hand against the house, the house will close its doors against him.

"We do not rejoice in this declaration. We mourn the fracture of kinship. But the custom is clear: he who denies the stool, loses the stool. He who rejects the state, is rejected by the state.

"Let the drums speak the truth. Let the blood of the sacrifice know and speak the unbridled customs and let the ancestors bear witness,” Lawyer Kwame Boateng added.

The Etweresohene has been in the news in recent days following remarks in which he challenged the authority of the Okyenhene over the installation of a chief for Osenase and threatened to break away from Akyem Abuakwa. He reportedly insisted that he holds the authority to determine who becomes chief of Osenase.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the 12 chiefs within the Odau Group under the Benkum Division of Okyeman and led by the Etweresohene publicly distanced themselves from his statements and pledged their allegiance to the Okyenhene.
