The chiefs and people of Krobo land comprising Yilo Krobo, Upper Manya Krobo, Lower Manya Krobo, and Asuogyaman have issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, Michael Kofi Okyere Baafi, demanding a retraction and apology over alleged ethnocentric comments directed at Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey.
The ultimatum follows the circulation of a video in which the MP is alleged to have made remarks considered offensive to a section of the Krobo community.
Addressing a press briefing on Monday, April 13, 2026, the Sub-Chief of Adjepo, Nene Adamptey Iddrisu, said failure by the MP to retract his comments and apologise within the stipulated period would result in further action.
He indicated that the directive was issued by the President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, Nene Sakite II.
“They have instructed that the Honourable Member be given seven days to retract and apologise. If he fails to do so, the Krobo people will proceed to petition the Speaker of Parliament for him to be dealt with in accordance with parliamentary regulations,” he stated.
The chiefs also highlighted the contributions of Krobo indigenes to national development, citing personalities such as Emmanuel Tettey Korboe under whose influence Koforidua experienced significant growth and Major (Rtd) Ted Tetteh, a former Regional Minister.

They cautioned against statements that could foster division, urging public officials to promote unity and peaceful coexistence.
“It is important to make statements that promote unity and peaceful coexistence, rather than divisiveness,” he added.
Meanwhile, Okyere Baafi has denied any intention to demean or discriminate against any ethnic group, insisting that his remarks have been misunderstood and taken out of context.
According to him, he made the comments within a specific context.
