Alhaji Musah Akanbomga, President of the Council of Zongo Chiefs in Kumasi
The President of the Council of Zongo Chiefs in Kumasi, Alhaji Musah Akanbomga, has called on Zongo youth nationwide to avoid substance abuse and prioritize education for a secure future.
Speaking at the Muslim Festival in Kumasi, he described the growing trend of substance abuse among youth as a "national tragedy" threatening Ghana's human capital development.
Alhaji Musah Akanbomga emphasized that drugs like "red pills," Tramadol, marijuana, shisha, and codeine mixtures are destroying young people's dreams, urging parents, teachers, and community leaders to collaborate in combating the menace.
"Drugs are turning our youth into slaves. We cannot fail this generation. True strength lies in self-control, discipline, and purpose," he said.
He commended the government for addressing drug abuse and stressed that Ghana's future depends on protecting its youth.
The increasing rate of substance abuse among Ghanaian youth poses a great threat to effective teaching and learning, as it undermines concentration, discipline, and academic performance.
Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Frank Amoakohene highlighted government plans for Ghana's youth.
NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah thanked Ashaiman citizens for their support and urged party members to remain calm, saying President John Dramani Mahama is working to move Ghana forward, completing abandoned projects in the Ashanti Region.
