The Volta/Oti Regional Office of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has undertaken a comprehensive community monitoring and public education exercise across four operational districts: Dambai, Jasikan, Hohoe, and Kpando, as part of its mandate to ensure the delivery of quality utility services to consumers.
The exercise, carried out from April 13 to 17, 2026, aimed to assess key performance indicators of utility service providers, including quality of service delivery, meter reading accuracy, bill delivery efficiency, and customer care. It also sought to raise awareness about the Commission’s role and strengthen consumer confidence in its regulatory functions.
In total, the Commission engaged about 330 consumers across 31 communities within the four districts. In the Dambai District, communities visited included Dambai, Katanga, Asukawkaw, Kparekpare, and Tokurano. In the Jasikan District, the team engaged residents in Jasikan, Worawora, Kadjebi, Okadjakrom, Poase Cement, Dzindziso, and Guaman.
In the Hohoe District, interactions took place in Akpafu Odomi, Mempeasem, Santrokofi Benua, Gbodome, Likpe Nkwanta, Bakua, Gbi Atabu, Kledzo, and Fodome Amele. In the Kpando District, the Commission visited Kpando Gabi, Torkor, Fesi, Agbenoxoe, Anfoega, and Vakpo.
Feedback from consumers showed mixed experiences with utility service delivery. Many respondents acknowledged improvements in meter reading, timely bill delivery, and the general attitude of service providers, noting that these efforts are improving customer relations.
However, concerns persist over service quality. Many consumers cited frequent voltage fluctuations, phase-offs, and power outages, especially during peak periods. They said these challenges continue to disrupt economic activities and negatively affect livelihoods, particularly for small and medium-scale businesses.
The PURC said the findings will be shared with relevant utility service providers for immediate action. It reaffirmed its commitment to working with stakeholders to address identified gaps and improve service delivery standards.
The Commission also assured the public of its continued monitoring of utility services to ensure reliable, efficient, and equitable access to electricity and water.
