The initiative was disclosed in a statement issued by the MCE
Nkwanta South Municipal Assembly has announced plans for the construction of a telecommunications tower to improve network connectivity in Abrubruwa, Fankyenekor, Obanda, Ando, Asuboe and surrounding communities.
The initiative, disclosed in a statement issued by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Joseph Awal Abubakar Antwi, is aimed at addressing the longstanding challenges of weak or non-existent mobile network coverage in parts of the municipality.
Antwi described the project as “a significant step towards bridging the digital divide,” noting that improved connectivity would enhance communication and unlock opportunities in education, commerce, and public service delivery.
He said reliable network access would facilitate online learning, mobile money transactions, access to market information for farmers and traders, and improve emergency communication systems within the beneficiary communities.
The MCE commended the Member of Parliament (MP) of Nkwanta South constituency, Geoffrey Kini, for his role in facilitating the project.
“His commitment and advocacy for improved living conditions in the municipality have been instrumental in bringing this initiative to fruition,” the statement said.
Antwi called on stakeholders, including community members and implementing agencies, to support the successful execution and sustainability of the project. In addition, he expressed appreciation to residents for their continued cooperation and support for development initiatives in the area.
Limited telecommunications infrastructure remains a challenge in some rural parts of the Oti Region, where difficult terrain and low commercial returns have slowed private sector investment.
The planned network tower forms part of broader efforts by the government and its partners to expand rural connectivity and promote digital inclusion, with expected benefits for education, healthcare delivery and financial inclusion.
