A fatal road accident at Bossofuor in Asante Mampong has resulted in the death of a 37-year-old teacher and left several of her colleagues injured.

The deceased, identified as Constance Karikari of the Hwediem M/A Basic School, succumbed to severe injuries at the Mampong Government Hospital on Wednesday night, April 29, 2026.

The incident occurred as five teachers were returning from school in a tricycle, popularly known as a Pragya, driven by a male colleague.

During their short journey, the tricycle reached a section of the road between the Odiko Boatemaa Vocational School and the local cemetery at Bossofuor. At this point, the tricycle was involved in a violent head-on collision with a tipper truck traveling from the Ninting direction on the Mampong-Kumasi Highway.

The force of the impact left the occupants of the tricycle with serious injuries, necessitating an emergency evacuation to the nearby Mampong Government Hospital.

While medical staff worked to stabilise the victims, Madam Constance Karikari was unable to survive her injuries. The remaining teachers involved in the crash are currently reported to be in stable condition and continue to receive treatment at the facility.

Nicholas Osei-Wusu, the Assembly Member for the Ninting Electoral Area, confirmed the details of the tragedy and noted that local authorities have already visited the bereaved family and the surviving victims to offer their condolences and support. He described the situation as a significant blow to the local educational community, highlighting the sudden loss of a dedicated staff member.

In response to the trauma and the temporary loss of a large portion of its teaching staff, authorities have closed the Hwediem M/A Basic School.

The Assembly Member explained that with one teacher deceased and three others still hospitalised with long recovery periods ahead, the school is currently unable to operate normally.

Community leaders have expressed deep concern regarding the psychological well-being of the students, particularly those preparing for the upcoming Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

With the exams scheduled to begin this Monday, there are fears that the tragedy may impact the candidates' focus and performance.

Local officials remain hopeful that the students will find the strength to navigate this difficult period as the community mourns the loss of a valued educator.
