Cyclist rides from Yeji to Jirapa, wins motorbike from Anwelle Foundation

The Anwelle Foundation, a local non-governmental organisation (NGO), has honoured Tiekan Joseph, popularly known as “Hero,” with a brand new Apsonic AP125-30 motorbike in recognition of his remarkable 525-kilometre bicycle journey from Yeji to Jirapa during this year’s B’ong-ngo Festival.

The award was formally presented by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Anwelle Foundation, Frank Anwelle, together with the Paramount Chief of Jirapa, Naa Dinaa Donglabong Ganaa, at a grand durbar held to mark the 2026 Bong-ngo feast.

The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Charles Lwanga Puozuing, Upper West Regional Minister, Cletus S. Dapilah, Member of Parliament for the Jirapa Constituency; and Hon. Peter N. To-ang, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Jirapa, among other distinguished guests.

The donation highlights the foundation’s commitment to empowering individuals who demonstrate initiative, resilience and a strong sense of community purpose.

Hero, a teacher based in Yeji and a native of Jirapa Nambeg, embarked on the four-day cycling journey to promote the Bong-ngo Festival and encourage bicycle riding as a healthy lifestyle.

His journey, which included overnight stops in Apesika, Tinga and Sawla, attracted widespread admiration and culminated in a heroic welcome upon his arrival in Jirapa.

In recognition of his effort, the Anwelle Foundation presented him with the motorbike to support his mobility and enhance the impact of his initiative.

The foundation noted that the gesture aligns with its broader objectives of promoting youth empowerment, healthy living and community-driven development.

Additionally, Muskila Motors supported Hero with a cash donation of GH₵1,000 to assist with fuel for the motorbike, further strengthening the usefulness of the award.

Through this intervention, the Anwelle Foundation has sent a strong message to the youth of Jirapa and beyond—that dedication, creativity and service to the community will be recognised and rewarded.

Hero’s inspiring journey, bolstered by the foundation’s support, continues to motivate many young people to take bold steps toward meaningful community impact.
