2 BECE pupils were injured in a motor accident but later took part in the exam after treatment
Two Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates in the Nkwanta South Municipality were involved in a motorbike accident while on their way to the examination center.
According to a report by myjoyonline.com on May 7, 2026, the candidates were quickly taken to St Joseph Catholic Hospital for treatment.
Despite the incident, they demonstrated remarkable determination and returned to the examination center to write their papers after receiving medical care, hopeful about their educational future.
In an interview with Adom News, the Municipal Education Director for Nkwanta South, Jonathan Korsinah, confirmed the incident and noted that "some parents had refused to allow their children to stay in camps ahead of the examinations due to ongoing insecurity in the municipality."
He mentioned that "many candidates had limited preparation time, having been home for nearly three months without attending classes."
Korsinah highlighted that this disruption has led to a significant decline in BECE performance compared to previous years, especially when the municipality has been striving to improve educational outcomes.
He urged community members to promote peace, emphasising that insecurity is hindering learning and jeopardising the future of children in the area.
Additionally, Adom News reported that police personnel and joint military patrols were present at various BECE centers to provide security and ensure the safety of candidates during the examinations.
