The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Offinso North in the Ashanti Region, Ceaser Ofosu Acheampong, has urged candidates sitting for this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the district to write their papers with confidence and perform to the best of their ability.

He gave the advice during a monitoring tour of selected examination centres in the district, where he was accompanied by officials from the District Education Directorate and staff of the District Assembly.

A total of 1,551 candidates are writing the examination in the district this year, comprising 759 males and 792 females from 47 schools, including five private schools. The exercise is being supervised by 16 supervisors and 53 invigilators.

Addressing the candidates, Acheampong encouraged them to remain calm and focused, describing the BECE as an opportunity for students to demonstrate what they had learned throughout their basic education.

“The examination was for them to give accounts of all that they had been taught throughout their basic education levels and asked them to feel relaxed and answer the questions and pass with distinction,” he said.

He expressed optimism that the candidates would perform better than in previous years, while advising them to strictly adhere to examination rules and instructions to avoid sanctions such as cancellation of papers.

For his part, the Offinso North District Director of Education, Martin Addo Fordjour, also cautioned candidates against examination malpractice.

He said: “The Director-General has asked us to ensure incident-free examination in terms of malpractices, so, that is what we are working to achieve.”

Fordjour further encouraged the candidates to remain focused and strive for excellent results to enhance the district’s academic performance.

He expressed confidence that Offinso North could emerge among the best-performing districts if candidates complied with examination guidelines and put in their best effort.
