A Ghana Health Service facility in Manso Aboaboso
The Manso Aboaboso CHPS Compound is facing a severe healthcare crisis, operating with only one health worker to serve an estimated population of 5,000 residents.
A recent visit by Adom News revealed the difficult conditions at the facility, where Prince Bonzey is single-handedly performing the duties of an entire medical team, according to a report by myjoyonline.com on May 11, 2026.
Bonzey currently serves as the facility’s outpatient department (OPD) officer, clinician, and midwife all at once.
He reportedly attends to more than 20 patients each day; a workload that would ordinarily require several healthcare professionals.
“I was working here with another nurse who is currently on maternity leave, and I don’t believe she will return because the network challenges in this community are unbearable and make the work very difficult,” Bonzey explained.
The challenges at the facility go beyond inadequate staffing.
The absence of reliable mobile network connectivity has made the area unattractive to health professionals, with many reportedly declining postings to Aboaboso.
According to Bonzey, the lack of communication infrastructure makes emergency healthcare delivery extremely difficult, as he is unable to call ambulances or make referrals promptly during critical situations.
“Providing healthcare to residents here is very challenging. Authorities must urgently intervene to address the situation,” he appealed.
Residents from nearby communities often travel long distances to seek treatment at the facility, only to encounter long waiting times or, in some cases, return home without receiving care due to the overwhelming workload.
“Sometimes you come here and spend hours waiting to see the health worker because he is overwhelmed. At times, people even return home without treatment. It is very concerning. Are we not Ghanaians too?” one resident lamented.
Community members are now calling on the government and the Ghana Health Service to urgently deploy additional healthcare personnel and improve telecommunications infrastructure in the area to make it more conducive for medical professionals to work and live.
