The event, held on May 9, 2026, brought together about 100 inmates
The CA Foundation, in partnership with Alicia Global, the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), and the National Alliance of Ghana Law Students, has organised a constitutional literacy programme for inmates at the Senior Correctional Centre at Roman Ridge.
The event, held on May 9, 2026, brought together about 100 inmates, correctional officers, and law students for a civic education session focused on constitutional rights, responsibilities, and democratic values under Ghana’s 1992 Constitution.
Delivering the keynote address, Justice Akosua Christopher educated participants on fundamental human rights and the constitutional protections available to all individuals, including inmates.
She emphasised that incarceration does not strip individuals of their constitutional rights and encouraged inmates to view education and civic awareness as tools for transformation, rehabilitation, and reintegration into society.
Executive Director of The CA Foundation, Celestine Addo, explained the purpose and development of the Constitution and highlighted the importance of citizenship and constitutional literacy for all Ghanaians.
She reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to making constitutional education accessible to every Ghanaian, regardless of background or circumstance.
The Greater Accra Regional Director of the NCCE, Mawuli Agbenu, commended The CA Foundation for extending constitutional education to vulnerable and underserved communities.
He said the initiative aligns with the NCCE’s constitutional mandate to educate citizens on their civic rights and responsibilities and to deepen democratic participation.
The programme featured interactive discussions, question-and-answer sessions, and civic education exhibitions to encourage active participation.
The CA Foundation also donated items to the inmates. In support of the initiative, Assembly Member Yussif Adam donated street lights to improve safety and security at the correctional centre.
The Foundation acknowledged the support of sponsors and partners, including iCann Technologies Incorporated, Party & More, Leeway Construction, Fresh Drops, and volunteers from the Ghana School of Law.
