Joseph Awal Antwi, the Municipal Chief Executive of Nkwanta South, has commissioned a new Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) school at Shiare, a suburb of the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region.

The initiative, being the first in the municipality, aims at improving and strengthening foundational learning and equipping students with relevant 21st-century skills for the community and its surrounding eight communities.

The event also features the donation of school uniforms to support learners and promote school attendance.

Antwi, addressing the people at the ceremony, noted that education remains a key pillar of the government’s development agenda.

He also explained that the STEM initiative is designed to equip students with skills in ICT, mathematics, and science to foster innovation, problem-solving, and career readiness.

Antwi urged students to take full advantage of the programme and the learning process provided to them for a brighter future.

He also revealed plans by the Municipal Assembly to establish five additional STEM centres to expand access to more communities

Jonathan Korsinah, the Municipal Education Director, also highlighted the strategic importance of the Shiare community, noting its stability as a central learning point for nearby communities.

He assured that qualified teachers have been deployed, with a strong focus on practical laboratory work and hands-on learning to enhance understanding and build confidence among students.

The chiefs and elders of the community also assured their support in making sure that the school serves its main purpose and that prominent leaders will be groomed for the betterment of the community and society.

The initiative, together with expansion plans, is expected to significantly improve educational outcomes and prepare learners in the Municipality for future workforce demands.
