The major road linking the area to Navrongo and the Regional Capital has been cut off
Hours of rainfall have left parts of the Sandema township, the capital of the Builsa North Municipality in the Upper East Region, submerged, with hundreds of residents rendered homeless.
The major road linking the area to Navrongo and the Regional Capital has also been cut off by flooding, leaving commuters stranded on both sides.
According to residents, the only available route to the capital is through Yagaba in the North East Region.
At the time of this report, officials of the National Disaster Management Organisation, the Ghana Police Service, and the Ghana National Fire Service were on the ground assessing the extent of the damage to property.
