Traditional leaders and residents of Samreboi in the Amenfi West Municipality of the Western region have held a press conference demanding immediate government and parliamentary intervention to fix the deplorable road network in the area.

Addressing journalists over the weekend, chiefs, queen mothers, and opinion leaders said Samreboi remains one of Ghana’s top cocoa-producing communities, with additional contributions through timber, plywood export, and small-scale mining. Yet, they lamented that poor roads continue to choke economic activity and endanger lives.

“Amenfi West has been supporting the NDC since 1992. After three terms of our MP, we still cannot move cocoa, timber, and people safely on our roads. This is unacceptable,” a spokesperson for the chiefs told the media.

The leaders said the bad road conditions are making it difficult for farmers to transport produce, increasing transport costs, and forcing vehicles off the road during the rainy season.

They also linked the poor roads to delays in emergency services and school transportation.

At the press conference, the traditional authorities gave the government and the MP, Eric Efful who has served three terms, a one-month ultimatum to deploy contractors and begin work on the critical roads.

They added that steps must also be taken to improve infrastructure at the Community Day Senior High School.

“The people of Amenfi West are saying their voices must be heard. We will use our democratic power to make decisions when the time comes. All we are asking for is development that matches our contribution to Ghana’s progress,” the chiefs declared.

Amenfi West has been an NDC stronghold since 1992, but today's press conference shows growing frustration over stalled development.
