Nkroful Chief urges government to build a district hospital in Ellembelle
The Divisional Chief of Nkroful in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region, Nana Kwasi Kutuah V, has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama and his government to build a district hospital in the area to help save lives.
Nkroful, the district capital of Ellembelle and the hometown of Ghana’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, remains one of the few district capitals in the Western Region without a government hospital. The district serves more than 100 communities and a cosmopolitan population made up of people from various ethnic backgrounds.
According to Nana Kwasi Kutuah V, the establishment of a district hospital has been his top priority since he became chief. He said he took several steps to advocate for the project during the Akufo-Addo administration, but the government at the time did not prioritise it.
Speaking in an exclusive interview at Nkroful on Thursday, June 11, 2026, the chief commended the Mahama administration for its efforts to "reset Ghana" but highlighted several pressing challenges confronting the Ellembelle District, with the lack of a district hospital topping the list.
He directed his appeal through the Member of Parliament for Ellembelle and Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah.
“The Nkroful community is ready for the project,” he said. “The population of the Ellembelle District has increased, and Nkroful, as the district capital, is a suitable location for a district hospital to save lives. We are ready to provide land for the project if the Ministry of Health comes tomorrow.”
Nana Kwasi Kutuah V urged Armah-Kofi Buah to lobby both the Minister for Health and President John Dramani Mahama to facilitate the establishment of a district hospital at Nkroful, describing it as his “indelible legacy.”
“As you have promised that they are going to build a district hospital for us, we support you. I think if you push for it and we are given a district hospital in Ellembelle, it will be your greatest legacy as far as your tenure as MP is concerned, and the district hospital must be sited at Nkroful,” he said.
“Nkroful is waiting patiently for this project, and the entire community, as well as the people of Ellembelle District, will be excited about it. If you look at the district’s population distribution, most residents are located within the Nkroful enclave. We therefore encourage you to ensure that the hospital is built at Nkroful,” he added.
The chief also commended Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah for his performance as Minister for Lands and Natural Resources and as MP for the Ellembelle Constituency. He encouraged him to intensify efforts to promote the district’s development and leave behind a lasting legacy.
Nana Kwasi Kutuah V further pledged, on behalf of the Nkroful community, to support Armah-Kofi Buah in his efforts to succeed.
