Akyem Tafohene with his elders
Correspondence from Eastern Region
The traditional authorities of Akyem Tafo, led by the Akyem Tafohene, Daasebre Adusei Peasah IV, have officially announced a temporary ban on all forms of noise-making across the Akyem Tafo township and the wider Akyem Abuakwa area.
The directive, which is part of customary preparations for upcoming traditional observances, is scheduled to take effect from Tuesday, June 16, 2026, and will remain in force until Tuesday, June 30, 2026.
In an official public notice, the Traditional Council emphasised the importance of the period, which is set aside for ancestral and communal reflection. During these two weeks, residents and visitors are strictly prohibited from engaging in activities that generate excessive noise. This includes the playing of loud music, the use of public address systems, drumming, and the hosting of outdoor entertainment events.
"We urge all residents, including religious bodies, entertainment operators, and the general public, to fully comply with this directive," the statement read. "This period is essential for maintaining a peaceful and respectful atmosphere in line with our long-standing customs."
In Akan tradition, noise-making bans are a standard practice preceding significant cultural or traditional rites. These periods are intended to provide a serene environment for the community to honour its heritage and perform necessary ancestral rituals without external disruption.
The Akyem Tafo Traditional Council has further advised members of the community to seek clarification and guidance from local authorities regarding any planned activities that might inadvertently violate the directive before proceeding. Businesses and religious organisations have been particularly encouraged to adjust their operations to ensure complete cooperation with the traditional leadership.
As of June 16, 2026, local community leaders are expected to monitor compliance to ensure that the sanctity of the traditional observance is preserved throughout the Akyem Abuakwa area.
