Police deploy Special Operations Team to Nkwanta following deadly attacks

The Ghana Police Service has deployed a Special Operations Support Team to the Nkwanta South Municipality in response to recent violent attacks that have resulted in the loss of lives and injuries to several people.

In a press release issued on June 21, 2026, and signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police John Nchor of the Public Affairs Unit, the Police Service stated that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) ordered the immediate deployment of the elite team from the National Police Headquarters in Accra on June 20, 2026.

The move is aimed at reinforcing security, restoring calm, and supporting ongoing investigations in the area.

“The Ghana Police Service has intensified security measures to restore calm and ensure public safety,” the statement said.

Residents have been assured of the continued presence and vigilance of security personnel in the municipality.

The public has also been urged to remain calm, cooperate fully with security agencies, and provide credible information that could assist ongoing investigations.

The Police Service reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property while ensuring peace and security within the municipality.

The deployment comes amid heightened tensions in the Nkwanta area, where local authorities and security agencies are working to prevent further escalation and bring the perpetrators to justice.
