A 22-year-old man has been taken into custody at Sefwi Atronsu in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region after police allegedly found human remains in his possession, suspected to have been taken from a cemetery.

According to an adomonline.com report, the suspect, identified as Francis Addae, also known as Nana Kwame, was initially arrested in connection with an ongoing theft investigation.

The report indicated that during a search of his residence, officers reportedly discovered a red and black travelling bag containing human bones, including a skull, a thigh bone, and a jawbone.

When questioned, he told investigators that he came across the bones about a month earlier while clearing land near the cemetery and decided to pick them up. However, he was unable to provide a clear reason for keeping them in his room.

Police, led by the Sefwi Bekwai District Police Commander, DSP Peter Nartey, later escorted him to the cemetery, where he allegedly identified a tiled grave said to belong to the late Nana Badu, a respected elder of Old Atronsu who died and was buried several years ago.

At the site, officers noticed what appeared to be a damaged section of the grave, along with broken tiles nearby, raising concerns that the tomb may have been disturbed recently.

The Assembly Member for the area, Samuel Gyapong, confirmed the incident and said the suspect remains in custody, assisting with investigations.

Family representatives of the deceased, led by the Abusuapanin, Appiah Nini, have also expressed concern over the situation and say they are working with authorities to ensure a thorough investigation and that justice is served.
