The Chief Executive Officer of the New Life Regeneration Foundation, Roselyn Sena Gbetanu, has underscored the relentless nature of addiction care, stressing that rehabilitation is a long, difficult process that requires stronger partnerships between NGOs, churches, and government institutions.

‎Sharing her experiences with GhanaWeb during the commemoration of International Day against Drug Abuse on June 26, 2026, she explained that passion alone is not enough to sustain rehabilitation efforts, as addiction is a disease that cannot be cured instantly.

‎“From the beginning I didn’t know how to set boundaries because when you are moved with passion, you go all out to help. Learning on the job, I realized that addiction is actually a disease, one that cannot be cured instantly,” she said.

‎She noted that opening doors for addicts without limits was unsustainable and harmful to his own mental health, leading the Foundation to align with faith‑based organizations for counseling support.

‎“We make sure addiction is not seen only as a spiritual problem. Counseling must be taken right to the doorstep of the people, because many don’t know about clinical psychology or psychiatry, and stigma around addiction remains high,” she added.

‎The Foundation’s education programs, she explained, cut across communities, addressing mental health conditions such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, which often overlap with substance abuse.

‎“I am a businesswoman, not a clinical psychologist, so I always engage experts to assist. We have restored some people, but it has not been easy. Rehabilitation is not instant, it is a continual process until the person recovers. There is no easy cure, so we must safeguard young people to ensure they don’t venture into substance abuse at all,” the CEO emphasized.

‎Her remarks highlight the Foundation’s commitment to tackling addiction through structured rehabilitation, community education, and partnerships, while reminding stakeholders that “the work never stops.”
