A devastating fire has destroyed a 30-bedroom house at Nkawie in the Atwima Municipality of the Ashanti Region, leaving several occupants homeless and reducing property worth thousands of cedis to ashes.

The blaze, which broke out at about 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 29, 2026, spread rapidly through the building before residents could salvage most of their belongings.

Eyewitnesses said the fire engulfed the structure within minutes, forcing terrified occupants to flee for safety as thick smoke billowed into the sky.

The victims managed to escape unharmed but lost clothing, important documents, household appliances, furniture, and other personal valuables in the inferno.

“Everything we have worked for is gone. We could only save our lives,” one distraught resident lamented.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service responded promptly to a distress call and battled the flames, successfully preventing the fire from spreading to adjoining buildings.

Their swift intervention brought the situation under control after several hours of firefighting, averting what could have been a much larger disaster in the densely populated community.

No casualties had been confirmed at the time of filing this report.

Officials said the cause of the fire remains unknown, and investigations have commenced to establish the circumstances that led to the incident.

The affected residents have appealed to government agencies, philanthropists, and the general public for assistance as they begin rebuilding their lives.
