The Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, Patrick Yaw Boamah, has called on citizens to be more disciplined and keep their surroundings clean to help reduce flooding in the constituency.

He made the call when he visited communities affected by the recent heavy rains on Thursday July 3, 2026, to donate relief items to victims whose homes and properties were destroyed by the floods.

The items donated items such as food and other essential supplies to support families affected by the disaster.

Boamah assured the victims that he would continue to work with the relevant state institutions to find a lasting solution to the flooding problem.

Speaking to residents, the MP said government efforts alone would not be enough if people continued to dump refuse into drains and waterways.

"Government will continue to do its part, but we also have a responsibility to protect our environment. If we keep dumping refuse into gutters, flooding will continue to affect our communities," he said.

Boamah further urged residents to stop throwing waste into drains, maintain clean surroundings and take part in communal clean-up exercises.

"Let us all be disciplined and make sanitation a priority. By keeping our drains clean, we can reduce flooding and protect our homes and property," he added.

The Chief of Abeka, Nii Boi V, also appealed to residents to change their attitude towards sanitation, saying poor waste disposal remains one of the main causes of flooding in the area.

"Our gutters are meant to carry water, not refuse. I urge everyone to dispose of waste properly and support efforts to keep our communities clean. If we all play our part, we can reduce flooding," the chief said.
