'Build a legacy devoid of politics' - Buipewura Jinapor urges GMTF

The Vice President of the National House of Chiefs, Buipewura Mahama Abdulai Jinapor II, has issued a strong warning to the management of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF) to strictly keep partisan politics out of its operations.

Speaking during a briefing session in Kumasi where the GMTF Board of Trustees met with the traditional rulers, the respected chief emphasized that disease does not discriminate along political lines and neither should the administration of life-saving public funds.

"Health is not about politics. Health does not know you are NDC or you are NPP. Please, do not bring any politics into this noble initiative." Buipewura Jinapor II stated directly to the GMTF delegation.

Addressing the GMTF Administrator, the Vice President urged the board to establish a rock-solid operational foundation that can withstand future changes in government or leadership transitions.

He stressed that the sustainability of the trust fund is critical so that even when current administrators are no longer at the helm, the institution will remain robust and untouchable.

"Try and put up a very strong foundation so that even when you are no more, nobody can come and compromise or touch it. That is the most important advice I can give you," the chief counseled.

Reflecting on the engagement, Buipewura Jinapor II described the briefing as a highly useful and timely interaction, highlighting the essential partnership between traditional authorities and the state-backed trust fund.

On behalf of the National House of Chiefs, he officially pledged the complete, unwavering support of traditional rulers nationwide to help the GMTF achieve its mission of financing specialized healthcare for the poor.

"We promise them that we will support them with all our strength," he assured the gathering.

The Vice President of the National House of Chiefs also acknowledged the generosity of individuals and organizations who have already responded effectively to appeals for contributions, thanking them for their commitment to improving healthcare outcomes.

He concluded by reiterating that the House of Chiefs is ready to work hand-in-hand with the GMTF to build a healthier, non-partisan safety net for all Ghanaians facing chronic medical crises especially the non communicable diseases.
