In a move to improve sanitation and reduce the risk of seasonal flooding, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Abuakwa North, Charles Darko Yeboah, popularly known as "Ozay", has led a massive community clean-up exercise in Akyem Old Tafo.

The exercise witnessed a rare display of political unity and inter-agency cooperation, with the MCE joined by personnel from the Municipal Security Services, the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana National Fire Service, and the Municipal NADMO team.

Significantly, the exercise transcended partisan lines, as the NDC Constituency Chairman, Sadidi Mohammed, popularly known as "Arab Money", worked alongside NPP constituency executives to clear choked gutters and remove debris across the community.

The operation forms part of a broader municipal effort to comply with directives issued by President John Dramani Mahama, designating specific days for the clearing of flood-prone areas.

Speaking to GhanaWeb correspondent Eric Obeng Boateng at the site of the exercise, Charles Darko Yeboah stressed the urgency of the intervention.

"We observed that at the Akyem Anyinasin Road, near the Palm Oil Factory, there was a significant flooding incident during the heavy rainfall two weeks ago. We are here to clear it to ensure the free flow of water. We have deployed Drip machinery to dig deeper gutters and clear blocked bridges in the area," the MCE said.

He praised the collaborative spirit demonstrated by the security services and political stakeholders, noting that the cooperation had provided critical momentum for the ongoing sanitation campaign in the municipality.

Darko Yeboah announced that the clean-up exercise would continue on Saturday, July 11, 2026, in the Aportosu Electoral Area in Kukurantumi.

The exercise ended successfully, leaving residents of Akyem Old Tafo with cleaner surroundings and renewed confidence in efforts to reduce the impact of flooding during the rainy season.
