The incumbent Ellembelle Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress in the Western Region, Alex Kwame Mahama popularly known as Chairman Accounty, has officially declared his intention to seek a third term in office.

Chairman Mahama made the official announcement on Thursday, July 16, 2026, through a short media briefing ahead of the NDC Constituency Executive elections slated for October 2026.

In his message, Chairman Mahama stated that he is welcoming a lot of party members to contest him to make the contest very competitive.

“I am interested in democracy and every party member is welcomed,” he said.

He also cautioned supporters against politics of insults and allegations.

“If you insult someone or level allegations against any member it will be difficult to work with the person after the Constituency Executive elections. Personal attacks will only divide the party,”, he stated.

He charged his followers to focus on selling his campaign goodwill messages to the over 1,000 delegates in the constituency.

Chairman Mahama expressed optimism that he would be retained based on the hard work he did in 2024 as Constituency Chairman, which helped the party to retain the Ellembelle Parliamentary seat and helped Mr. John Dramani Mahama win massively in Ellembelle Constituency.

He said his priority in seeking to retain his position is to help the Ellembelle NDC retain its parliamentary seat in 2028 and deliver an even bigger presidential victory.

A RECORD OF LANDSLIDE WINS

Chairman Mahama’s political journey in Ellembelle began in June 2018 at NASS, where he unseated the then Incumbent Vice Chairman, Goodwin Amihere.

In that election, Accounty polled 771 out of 990 total votes. Mr. Amihere had 220 votes while Teacher Kanra Kwaw of Aiyinasi polled 55 votes.

Four years later, in October 2022 at AYA, Ampain, Chairman Mahama retained his seat.

He secured 788 votes to defeat Maxwell Essien alias IM - 298 votes, Christopher Cudjoe - 111 votes, Kwasi Bervel - 84 votes, and Ebenezer Kweku Eshun - 27 votes.

"WORK TOGETHER TO RETAIN POWER"

His 2026 campaign is being run under the slogan: “MAINTAIN HON ALEX KWAME MAHAMA - Accounty - AS ELLEMBELLE CONSTITUENCY CHAIRMAN. WORKING TOGETHER TO RETAIN POWER”.

With the declaration, the race for the Ellembelle NDC Chairmanship is expected to gather momentum ahead of October.
