Kyebi (E/R), March 6, GNA - The Parents-Teachers-Association (PTA) of the Abuakwa State College Senior High School, has handed over a two unit teacher's bungalow and a 100 Kilo-Volt Power electricity generating plant= to the school at a short ceremony at Kyebi, on Saturday.
According to Mr George Gyasi, Chairman of the PTA, the two unit teachers bungalow were constructed at the cost of GHC51,000 whiles the electricity plant was purchased and install at a total cost of GHC58,975. He said funds for the projects were raised through the contribution of parents whose children were in the school.
Mr Gyasi said the plant was acquired to ensure that the school has electricity regularly, because of the frequent power outages at Kyebi and its environs, which sometimes disrupt academic work, especially when the students are writing their examination.
In another development, the Solar Mining Company, based at Osino, has also handed over to the school, a water system, constructed at the cost of GHC15,000.
The system involved a borehole, fitted with a solar pumping machine, which pumps water into the schools water tanks connected to stand pipes. Presenting the facility to the school, Mr Philip Dugba, Production Manager of the company said when the company started mining it's concessi= on near the school, some of the students were coming to the site to wash their cloths, despite the dangers associated with mining sites. He said the students made him aware that the school lacked sufficient water that was why they were coming to the Birim River near the mines to fetch water.
"The company therefore decided to provide the school with additional water sources, as part of its social responsibility to communities where it operates.
Mr Dugba said the company was ready to support the rehabilitation of some of the school's buildings and that, the company had also helped the people of Saaman and Osino with facilities. The headmaster of the school, Mr Nicholas Yeboah Aninagyei informed parents that discipline in the school has improved tremendously and urged all parents to advice their wards to stay within the confines of the school because of the illegal mining activities going on around the school. He explained that, such activities leave a lot of dangerous trenches which could be fatal.
The headmaster advised parents to always pay their wards fees in banker's draft.
