Onsonyameye community in dire need of a JHS block
The Member of Parliament for the Ellembelle Constituency in the Western Region, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has donated 50 bags of cement, a football and a set of jerseys to support the construction of a new JHS building for Onsonyameye in the Ellembelle District.
This follows a courtesy call by a delegation comprising the Odikro, CBE facilitators, CEA officers and elders from the community to present their educational needs under the Complementary Basic Education (CBE) programme.
The delegation appealed for support to begin the construction of a new school building to provide a decent learning environment for children and youth in the area.
Current school structure in bad state
GhanaWeb’s Western Regional Correspondent, Daniel Kaku, who visited Onsonyameye, observed that the existing KG-to-Primary Six structure is in a very bad state, with learners and teachers struggling to study in a conducive environment.
Community members said children who complete Primary Six currently have to walk long distances to access Junior High School education in nearby communities.
Parents appeal for support ahead of new academic year
With the 2026/2027 academic year set to begin in September 2026, parents and community members are appealing to other institutions, including the Ghana Gas Company, to come to their aid by constructing a JHS facility.
They said the new block is urgently needed to accommodate pupils who have completed Primary Six this year so that they will not have to walk long distances to attend JHS.
DCE pledges GH¢10,000 seed money
The District Chief Executive for Ellembelle, Joseph Armah Agyekum, who was present during the donation, also pledged GH¢10,000 as seed money to commence the construction of the new school building.
He further advised the educated youth of the area to take advantage of the Youth in Education programme, which he said would commence soon.
“As a lawmaker, I believe the District Assembly must also come to the aid of the community,” Armah-Kofi Buah said.
Community appreciation
The Odikro and elders expressed appreciation to the MP and DCE for their quick response, describing the donations as a major boost to education in Onsonyameye.
Facilitators of the Complementary Basic Education programme said the gesture would motivate learners and encourage more out-of-school children to enrol.
Both the MP and DCE reaffirmed their commitment to supporting self-help projects that promote education and development in the district.
