Bunkpurugu MP celebrates legacy of late Duut Emmanuel Kwame

The Member of Parliament for Bunkpurugu, Dr Abed-Nego Lamangin Bandim, has paid a glowing tribute to the late former Member of Parliament for the then Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo Constituency, Duut Emmanuel Kwame, describing him as a symbol of selfless leadership whose legacy of service should inspire future generations.

Making a statement on the floor of Parliament on Friday, July 31, 2026, Dr Bandim said the passing of the former legislator, affectionately known as Teacher Yupiong, was a significant loss to the people of Bunkpurugu, Parliament and the nation as a whole.

He described the late MP as an accomplished educationist, respected statesman and dedicated public servant whose commitment to education and community development positively impacted countless lives.

According to Dr Bandim, Duut spent nearly three decades in the teaching profession, serving as a teacher, assistant headmaster and headmaster before venturing into politics. Throughout his career in education, he mentored generations of students while promoting discipline, academic excellence and strong moral values.

The Bunkpurugu lawmaker noted that Duut entered politics out of a genuine desire to serve his people, having earned their trust through years of grassroots leadership and active community engagement.

He recalled that the late statesman was elected in 2008 to represent the then Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo Constituency in Parliament, where he became known for championing the welfare and development of his constituents.

Dr Bandim highlighted Duut’s unwavering commitment to education, revealing that even after leaving Parliament, he continued to sponsor the education of several students with his personal resources in fulfilment of promises he had made while in office.

“He demonstrated that leadership does not end when one leaves office,” Dr Bandim told Parliament.

Beyond education, the late former MP was remembered for his compassion and generosity towards vulnerable members of society. Dr. Bandim noted that Hon. Duut continued to support widows, persons with disabilities and other disadvantaged groups with food and other forms of assistance, even after donor support had ended.

The Bunkpurugu MP also praised Hon. Duut’s deep Christian faith, describing him as a devoted Catholic, loving husband, caring father and mentor whose humility and commitment to peace earned him admiration across political and social divides.

He said the former legislator’s enduring legacy of honesty, sacrifice and service should serve as a reminder to public office holders that leadership is a sacred responsibility aimed at improving the lives of citizens.

On behalf of the people of Bunkpurugu, Dr Bandim extended his condolences to the bereaved family, the people of Najong, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and all Ghanaians mourning the loss of the late statesman.

Parliament subsequently observed a minute’s silence in honour of Duut Emmanuel Kwame and other departed former Members of Parliament.
