Residents and drivers who ply the Mmoseaso, Abrense, Akrukruso to Manso Atwere road in the Amansie West District in the Ashanti Region are living in fear following frequent attacks from armed robbers.
The residents say the poor state of the road is largely to blame for the attacks.
They revealed that although a police patrol team monitors the road during the day, the team withdraws at night.
This, they say, gives room for armed robbers to attack commuters under the cover of darkness.
Speaking to OTEC news Reporter Kwame Agyenim Boateng on during a self-help community road-shaping exercise, the Assembly Member for Akrukruso Electoral Area, Samuel Yeboah, popularly known as "Godfather", confirmed the situation is dire.
"The situation is very bad. The deplorable nature of the road makes it very easy for robbers to ambush vehicles. Our people are now living in fear anytime they have to travel, especially at night," he said.
Yeboah is calling on government to tar the road to end the ordeal of residents and commuters.
According to the residents, the bad road slows down vehicles and makes them vulnerable targets, forcing some drivers to avoid plying the route after sunset.
They are appealing to the Ministry of Roads and Highways, the Ghana Police Service, and other stakeholders to intervene urgently to improve security and fix the road.
