Shock in Obuasi as seven-month-old baby found dead in drain

Residents of Obuasi Old Estate in the Ashanti Region were left in shock after the body of a seven-month-old baby was discovered in a drain in the early hours of Sunday, August 23, 2026.

According to adomonline.com, the infant was reportedly found between midnight and 1:00 a.m., but news of the discovery only spread through the community around 6:30 a.m.

The circumstances surrounding the baby’s death and how the body ended up in the drain remain unclear.

The incident was immediately reported to the authorities, who have since begun investigations.

The Assembly Member for the Estate Electoral Area, Kofi Mensah, popularly known as Gabasey, intervened to ensure that the body was retrieved.

He told Adom News’ Isaac Normanyo that arrangements had been made for the infant’s burial while investigations continue.

Residents have been urged to cooperate with investigators and provide any information that could help establish the circumstances surrounding the baby’s death and disposal.
