Godwin Oblanda presented certificates to 163 branch youth organisers ahead of his NDC chairman bid
The Lower Manya Krobo Constituency Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Godwin Oblanda Totroku, has presented certificates of appreciation to 163 branch youth organisers as he seeks their support for his bid to become the next constituency chairman.
Totroku, currently Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Youth and Employment Agency Director, organised the appreciation ceremony to recognise the contribution of the branch youth organisers to the party, particularly their role in the 2024 general elections and the NDC's return to power.
The event brought together about 190 party members and supporters, including 120 of the constituency's 163 branch youth organisers.
Totroku who's also Assembly man for the Odumase-South Electoral Area, said the presentation was also intended to formally acknowledge the branch youth organisers before he transitions from his current position as constituency youth organiser to contest the chairmanship position.
He explained that having worked closely with the branch youth organisers and supported several branch executives in their respective elections, he considered it important to recognise their contribution and seek their continued support.
“I cannot just leave them like that. I need to at least acknowledge their effort and support for the party by giving them certificates and honouring them,” he said.
He appealed to the branch youth organisers to support his campaign and serve as campaign coordinators or agents at their respective branches.
Totroku is contesting the chairmanship position against incumbent Constituency Organiser, Korletey Samuel, popularly known as Kosam in what is shaping up as a two-horse race for the constituency's top leadership position.
He said his ambition was to become a chairman who would give the youth a stronger voice in the affairs of the constituency.
“If I become the chairman, I am going to be the youth chairman. They will just have to join the winning team, and we will do this together,” he said.
Teye Nyaunu endorses bid
Former Lower Manya Krobo Member of Parliament Michael Teye Nyaunu has endorsed Totroku's chairmanship bid and urged delegates to vote for him in the upcoming NDC constituency elections.
Teye Nyaunu's endorsement is expected to add momentum to Totroku's campaign as he seeks to transition from the youth wing to the main constituency executive leadership.
The NDC's 2026 internal elections form part of the party's nationwide reorganisation exercise, with constituency elections scheduled for October 24 and 25, 2026.
Totroku said the certificates presented to the branch youth organisers were signed by National Youth Organiser and Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment George Opare Addo, Eastern Regional Youth Organiser Richard Etornam and himself.
He expressed gratitude to the branch youth organisers for their commitment and urged them to remain united as the party prepares for the next phase of its internal elections.
The appreciation ceremony, he said, was both a gesture of gratitude for their past contributions and an opportunity to formally seek their support for his chairmanship bid.
