TAMCI calls for peaceful resolution of Nalamtaaba mining dispute

The Chairman of the Talensi Mining Communities (TAMCI) in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region has appealed to individuals and groups to avoid actions that could disrupt the mining activities of Nalamtaaba Mining Enterprise.

He made the appeal at a press conference following a dispute over the company’s mining concession, which resulted in legal proceedings and a subsequent court ruling in its favour.

The Chairman alleged that Earl International, formerly known as Shaanxi Mining Limited, had sought to influence some individuals in connection with the dispute over the concession.

According to him, the matter was subsequently taken to court, resulting in a ruling that brought relief to the affected miners.

“TAMCI blesses the Bolga High Court for placing an injunction against Earl International,” he said.

He said the court’s decision was welcomed by the miners, who had faced financial difficulties after being unable to work while the dispute was ongoing.

He said the miners celebrated the ruling because it allowed them to resume their activities and livelihoods.

The Chairman called on all parties involved in the dispute to respect the court’s decision and pursue peaceful means of resolving any outstanding concerns.

He also encouraged the youth of Talensi to continue working within the areas legally allocated to them, describing the land as an important resource for the local community.

He appealed to traditional authorities and other stakeholders to support small-scale miners while ensuring that mining activities comply with the law and relevant regulatory requirements.

He further called on the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Minerals Commission and other state institutions to remain impartial and apply their regulatory mandates fairly to all parties.

He urged the institutions to provide the necessary regulatory support to enable Nalamtaaba Mining Enterprise to operate responsibly and contribute to the local economy.

The Chairman also expressed appreciation to the Upper East Regional Minister, Donatus Akamugre, the Ghana Police Service, the 11 Mechanised Battalion and other security agencies on the Regional Security Council for complying with the court order.

He said continued cooperation among the relevant stakeholders would help prevent further tensions and promote a peaceful and sustainable mining environment in the area.
