Under the Royal Patronage of His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Millennium Excellence Foundation (MEF) has taken its flagship celebration of African and diaspora achievement beyond the continent for the first time in its history.
The weeklong showcase, Millennium Excellence Week America 2026, ran through the final week of August across Washington, D.C., Arlington, National Harbor, and Bowie, Maryland. The initiative wove together sport, scholarship, business, and culture in a premier display of Ghanaian soft-power diplomacy on international soil.

His Majesty opened the proceedings with the Otumfuo Invitational at the historic Army Navy Country Club in Arlington, striking the ceremonial first ball before a gathering of Africa-focused investors, family office principals, and diaspora leaders.
The Asantehene’s itinerary also featured a Royal Guest Lecture at Howard University, an Africa Business & Investment Summit at MGM National Harbor bringing together private capital and government leaders, and engagements at Bowie State University.
The week culminated in the Millennium Excellence Awards Gala at the Warner Theatre, where Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and Her Royal Highness Lady Julia, Queen Consort, personally conferred honours on a distinguished slate of laureates.
Among those honored were Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who received the Global Transformation and Good Governance Prize, and late financier Reginald F. Lewis, who received a posthumous tribute for building America’s first Black-owned billion-dollar business while investing in Africa.

By bringing its flagship event to the United States, MEF expanded its operational footprint across Washington, Accra, and Kumasi to deepen enterprise and cultural connections throughout the diaspora corridor.
Organizers noted that bringing the celebration to the US capital provided a structural platform to support the legacies of global African achievers while facilitating direct conversations between global investors and regional stakeholders.
Supporting the royal-patronised initiative as headline sponsor was Golden Cement Ghana Limited, the Ningo Prampram-based manufacturer known for its state-of-the-art production facility.
The industrial player backed the entire execution of Millennium Excellence Week America 2026, aligning its commercial growth with national development and diaspora engagement.
"For Golden Cement Ghana Limited, supporting this initiative is an investment in Ghana’s reputation, people, and future," the company stated, noting that its involvement reflects a commitment to supporting institutions that provide the foundation for national progress.
