Jomoro MP supports 1,000 BECE graduates with school essentials

The Member of Parliament for the Jomoro Constituency in the Western Region and Deputy Minister for Transport, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, has supported 1,000 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) graduates in the constituency to pursue secondary education.

The colourful presentation ceremony was held at the Bonyere School Park on Monday, September 14, 2026.

According to the MP, the intervention is aimed at easing the financial burden on parents and ensuring that no child in Jomoro is left behind in the pursuit of secondary education.

The beneficiaries, who are set to enter various Senior High, Technical and Vocational Schools across the country, received financial support, trunks, chop boxes, mattresses, exercise books, notebooks and other essential items to aid their transition into second-cycle institutions.

Female beneficiaries were also provided with sanitary pads to promote menstrual hygiene and help keep them in school.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dorcas Affo-Toffey disclosed that she started the scholarship scheme about six years ago, even before becoming the Member of Parliament for the area.

She noted that she supported 800 young people last year but decided to increase the number to 1,000 this year to benefit more families.

The MP advised the beneficiaries to take their academic work seriously and avoid engaging in unproductive activities that could jeopardise their future.

She reiterated her commitment to investing in the human capital development of the constituency, stressing that education remains her top priority.

The Paramount Chief and his chiefs present at the ceremony commended Affo-Toffey for the initiative and urged students in Jomoro to make education their topmost priority.

“Education is the bedrock of development. As your MP, I will continue to support our children to achieve their dreams. I want to see every child in Jomoro go to school and become a responsible adult in the future,” she stated.

The beneficiaries and their parents expressed profound gratitude to the MP for the timely intervention, describing it as a great relief to families ahead of the reopening of schools.
