Asuogyaman MP commissions new school facilities in four communities

The Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman in the Eastern Region and Deputy Minister for Finance, Thomas Nyarko Ampem, has commissioned newly completed educational facilities in four communities in the constituency as part of efforts to improve access to quality basic education.

The projects, located at Asikuma, Aboasa, Asempaneye and Adome, include a six-unit classroom block and a two-unit kindergarten block with an office and store at Asikuma Pentecost Basic School; a three-unit classroom block at Asempaneye; and three-unit classroom blocks with offices and stores at Aboasa and Adome.

The facilities, funded through the MP’s share of the GETFund allocation and personal resources, were commissioned on Monday, September 14, 2026, in the presence of the Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu; Asuogyaman District Chief Executive, Godwin Bobobee; traditional leaders; teachers; students; assembly members; and community residents.

Also present were the Eastern Regional Director of Education, Dr Ivy Asantewaa Owusu, and the Asuogyaman District Director of Education, Augustina Adjoa Owusu.

Ampem said the projects were intended to address longstanding infrastructure challenges that had made access to education difficult for children in some communities.

“I’m proud of these edifices. The communities advocated for these projects, and I decided to support your cause,” he said.

He expressed the hope that the new facilities would improve teaching and learning and ultimately enable the beneficiaries to progress to tertiary education.

Adome children no longer have to travel far for JHS

Ampem cited the Adome project as particularly significant, explaining that children in the community previously had to travel long distances to access junior high school education.

“At Adome, for instance, the children were forced to trek long distances over the bridge to access JHS education. Today, I’m happy Adome has a JHS,” he said.

He said he had made a commitment to the people of Aboasa to address the educational infrastructure challenges there and was satisfied that the project had now been completed.

The MP also urged parents in the beneficiary communities to take advantage of the improved infrastructure by enrolling their children in school.

“We have only one public school here and all the children commute to that school. Because of that, parents delayed sending their children to school. I want to encourage parents to bring their wards,” he said.

Appeals for maintenance

The lawmaker appealed to teachers, education authorities and community members to take ownership of the new facilities and ensure their proper maintenance.

He said the sustainability of the investments depended on the willingness of the communities and school authorities to protect the facilities.

Asuogyaman DCE Godwin Bobobee said some of the projects had been initiated several years ago but stalled before funding was secured for their completion.

He said the assembly was committed to providing critical infrastructure for children in the district.

The DCE also urged school authorities to keep the newly completed facilities clean and properly maintained.

The commissioning formed part of efforts by the Asuogyaman MP and the district assembly to expand access to educational infrastructure in communities across the constituency.
