NMC clears Ghana Christian University College to resume BSc Nursing programme

The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana (NMC) has reversed its earlier decision to withdraw the professional accreditation of the Bachelor of Science (BSc) Nursing programme at Ghana Christian University College (GhanaCU).

In a letter addressed to the President of Ghana Christian University College, the Council said that following a further review and consideration, it had decided to reverse the withdrawal of professional accreditation communicated in an earlier letter dated September 26, 2025.

The reversal means that the restrictions and suspension previously imposed on the programme, including a ban on advertising and admitting new students, have been lifted with immediate effect.

However, the Council said the lifting of the restrictions is subject to the university’s full compliance with all regulatory requirements.

The NMC reminded the institution of its obligations under the Health Professions Regulatory Bodies Act, 2013 (Act 857), particularly Section 54(5)(h), which requires the education and training of nurses, midwives and other nursing practitioners to be conducted at approved educational institutions to ensure efficient nursing and midwifery practice.

It further directed the university to ensure that all its operations, including activities on its campuses, strictly adhere to the terms of its accreditation.

The Council also stressed that the professional accreditation granted to the BSc Nursing programme is campus-specific and non-transferable.

The university was asked to respond to the Council within 14 days with evidence of compliance and any necessary documentation required for the resumption of normal processes.

The university has since responded and complied with the Council’s requirements.

The letter was signed by Philomina A. N. Woolley, Registrar of the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

Copies of the letter were sent to the Director-General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission, the Director of Institutional Affiliations at the University for Development Studies (UDS), the Dean of the School of Nursing and Midwifery at UDS, and the Acting Director of the Regulations and Compliance Directorate of the NMC.

Ghana Christian University College is therefore admitting new students to its BSc Nursing programme for the 2026/2027 academic year.
