KIMTEC Principal Emmanuel Nomah
The Principal of Kikam Technical Institute (KIMTEC), Emmanuel Nomah, has appealed to the Ghana National Gas Company (Ghana Gas) and other corporate bodies for support to address infrastructure and logistical challenges facing the school.
The appeal was made at the school during the commissioning of a 12-unit classroom block on Monday, September 28, 2026.
Nomah said the institute was grappling with several challenges that were affecting teaching and learning.
He disclosed that two pit latrines currently serve more than 2,000 male students, describing the situation as inadequate and outdated.
“Currently what we are using I will say is a thing of the past. So Hon Armah-Kofi Buah, I have written letters to Ghana Gas and COCOBOD and the DCE. We are pleading for you to intervene for us to get a befitting washroom for the students,” he stated.
On transportation, the principal said travelling had become difficult for the school after its only bus, with a capacity of about 30 people, was involved in an accident.
“The institute lacks means of transport and we are anxiously awaiting the pick-up and school bus you promised the school,” he added.
Nomah said the campus road project was also abandoned in the early 2000s after the drains were almost completed, and appealed for work to resume.
He further called for support for the Garment and Fashion Technology Department, which needs industrial sewing machines following an increase in enrolment from fewer than 20 to more than 100 girls this year.
He also appealed for beds for the school’s dormitories, explaining that although there was adequate space, the institute lacked enough beds. He said the school had the capacity to produce the beds locally if provided with the necessary materials.
“Those that we have done, we did it ourselves. We only bought the materials and then we did it here,” he noted.
Nomah said there was growing pressure for additional dormitory, classroom, workshop and laboratory space, as well as improved departmental resources, machinery and equipment to support effective hands-on training.
He thanked the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), Armah-Kofi Buah and the District Chief Executive for their roles in facilitating the completion of the 12-unit classroom block.
Armah-Kofi Buah, who is also the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, assured the school that he would lobby Ghana Gas to support the institute in addressing some of its challenges.
