The German Embassy in Ghana has reaffirmed the mutual nature of the relationship between the two countries, stressing that both sides have valuable strengths and opportunities to contribute to the partnership.
The Embassy said Germany’s engagement with Ghana should not be viewed as a one-way relationship, but as a partnership in which both countries can draw on their respective strengths to achieve shared objectives.
“Germany has much to offer Ghana. And Ghana has much to offer Germany,” the Embassy stated in a Facebook post shared on October 5, 2026.
The statement formed part of the Embassy’s reflections on German Unity Day, which was celebrated in Accra with music, dance, art and cultural performances aimed at highlighting the friendship between Ghana and Germany.
The Embassy described its approach as Team Germany, which it said seeks to bring together the different strengths of both countries to make the partnership deliver for their mutual benefit.
German government reiterates commitment to Ghana’s security
Key areas of cooperation include security, investment and value creation, skills development and climate action.
The Embassy noted that Ghana and Germany, although different in many respects, are both democracies committed to cooperation, international rules and taking responsibility in their respective regions.
The German Unity Day celebration featured performances by the Universal Street Academy, Patchbay Band, Daakyehemaa, Okyeame Kwame and DopeNation, while musician KiDi also made a special appearance.
Accra-based German artist Rebekka Macht also exhibited works from her latest series, which explores themes of care and humanity’s relationship with nature.
Defence Minister Kenneth Gilbert Adjei represented the Government of Ghana at the event, which was also attended by Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu and Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin.
The Embassy said there is more ahead for the bilateral relationship, including the German-African Business Summit scheduled for Accra in November and German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier’s expected return to Ghana for his second visit within one year.
